BBC America dropped the news like a Beyoncé album this morning and I as well as many other fans of Doctor Who lost our collective minds. The 13th Doctor, who is essentially the previous 12th Doctor (played wonderfully by Peter Capaldi) in regenerated form, will be played by Jodie Whittaker. Whittaker is actually best known for her roles on the BBC’s hit show Broadchurch as well as movies like Attack the Block and One Day. If you haven’t finished Season 10 of Doctor Who I won’t spoil it for you but let’s just say at one point I was wondering if the Doctor was going to be able to regenerate at all. I am happy that for the first time in the show’s 54 year history they decided to make the Doctor a woman. But before all you SJW-haters hit your keyboards with reckless abandon, let me remind you that there have been many female Time Lords. Missy, the Master herself is one and there are clearly other Gallifreyans (sp?) that are women with the same regenerative ability, which is why I found it strange that a woman had not portrayed the Doctor yet. I look forward to how Whittaker will be revealed on the show, but in true Doctor Who fashion, we will just have to wait until Christmas.
