WATCH! My Alita Battle Angel Performance Capture Session with Director Robert Rodriguez

Here is the third video in my series about Alita: Battle Angel. This video is the one I’ve actually been waiting to show all of you! I got to spend a day at WETA Digital and run through a real performance capture scene with Alita’s director, Robert Rodriguez! This is the same process that WETA used with Rosa Salazar (Alita) and Ed Skrein (Zapan).

Check out my conversation with stars Rosa Salazar and Christoph Waltz here.

I walked through every step of the performance capture process. From the suit (they’re really unflattering pajamas), to calibration, to actually kicking some butt in a fight scene! The entire time, I was trying not to freak out that I was actually working with Robert Rodriguez! (Sin City is a classic). Mike Cozen (Alita,  Animation Supervisor/WETA Digital) and Eric Saindon (Alita, VFX Supervisor/WETA Digital) walked me through the entire process and were really lovely.

Click here to watch my conversation with Alita producer Jon Landau and the head of WETA Digital Joe Letteri.

So if you’ve ever wanted to know exactly how performance capture works. Watch this! (And don’t forget to subscribe and comment!)
