HBO’s The Last of Us proves that game adaptations don’t have to suck

The critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog has received widespread recognition as one of the best games of recent history and possibly of all time. Its success has led to excitement as well as apprehension among fans for HBO’s live-action adaptation, as video game adaptations have historically struggled to live up to their source material. However, the involvement of Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann as co-creator, co-showrunner and executive producer, in conjunction with Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”), has worked out well for the new franchise. I received the first season of The Last of Us HBO series to review, and I have to say that aside from a few issues (that I will bring up after future episodes have aired), this is a solid adaptation.
